Netoeric, part 1 (PSL)
[ It's been three years.
Three years ago, Naoko and Sumika went on to different high schools. Of course, in Naoko's mind, this never meant the end. The two of them were meant to be together, so this was just a temporary obstacle. A detour on the road to their happy ending. Sure, fate might be on their side, but sometimes fate needs a helping hand, in the form of closely following Sumika's life over the internet and figuring out which college she was aiming for. And in the end, it worked. The two of them, in the same incoming freshman class, at the same university. Just like she planned.
After three years, no droll anticlimax would do. Their reunion had to be something special. After hunting down Sumika's college email address, Naoko sent her a message (from a burner account) asking to meet her that evening, at the gardening club's gardens. Signed, "an old friend."
It was well past any time that the gardens would be in user, and technically nobody's supposed to be here at this hour, but those are just trifling details. Sumika will surely come.
All that's left to do is wait. ]

Not that it stops her from going to see what it's all about, of course. Self preservation's for nerds.
Afternoon snack in hand, Sumika slopes her way down to the gardens, peering around with interest between bites of her waffle. There's nobody around, but this place is kind of pretty so she's probably not about to get punked by a serial killer. ]
Heeeeeeeeello? [ said with a mouthful of food, because of course it is ] Anybody actually around?

[ She's even more beautiful than Naoko remembered her as being.
Naoko steps out into view. Composed, elegant, and overflowing with affection. ]
It's been so long since middle school, hasn't it? I'm so glad we wound up crossing paths again.

Like, full on, entire half-chewed mouthful of waffle going down her windpipe and she has to pound on her chest for a few moments to get herself some air again. By the time she's composed herself, her eyes are streaming and her face is red and blotchy, which is always how she likes cute girls to see her for the first time. Great. ]
Iā [ cough, cough. she's fine. ] Yes? I guess?
[ She wipes her sleeve over her still wet eyes and then squints at Naoko. Sumika's got an incredible vague look on her face that's telegraphing the words I Have No Idea Who You Are in 500 foot high letters. ]

It's the next part that worries her. As she reads Sumika's face, the warm smile slowly drains from Naoko's face. ]
You... You remember me, right? It's Naoko. Naoko Sasagawa.
no subject
What the hell, Sasagawa? For real? I straight up didn't recognize you! I know it's been three years, but geez.
[ She crams the remainder of her waffle into her mouth and hastily scrubs off her hands on her hoodie before closing the distance between them a bit more. ]
How've you been doing?

[ She HAS to remember the promise. Right? ]
no subject
Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's a small world, right? [ She nods, more to herself than Naoko. The word 'promise' has visibly sailed over her head. ] And it's not like either of us went super far out of our way. S'nice to actually see a familiar face around, though.
[ Maybe she WON'T be a total friendless loser at college. She can only hope! ]
Are you, uh, busy after this? Or d'you wanna go get something to eat, catch up a little?

She doesn't remember. She doesn't remember. She doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember she doesn't remember--
Naoko is, if nothing else, a master at keeping her true emotional state off of her face. Besides, this isn't too bad, is it? Sumika didn't end up going to the same high school as her. She overcame that obstacle. Fate has never dealt Naoko the cards she needs at the time she needs them. Where destiny fails, Naoko will succeed. ]

That sounds wonderful! I don't know the area well yet, but perhaps we can find someplace together. It'll be an adventure.

Well, I'm always just kind of bumming around here, so I know a few places that're pretty good. They're cheap too, since we're starving college students and all.
How d'you feel about ramen, or something? If you're after something a little lighter there's a good crepe places near here, too.
