Kosuzu Motoori (Touhou Project) is the human owner of the bookstore Suzunaan, and wields the ability to read anything, regardless of language. Friendship levels at maximum, but she has a tendency to cram her shop full of youkai-infested youma books, making it one of the most haunted-ass buildings in the human village. Often ends up in over her head due to a combination of fascination with cursed magic tomes and insatiable curiosity.

Yuma Kuga (World Trigger) is an alien immigrant from another dimension, trying to figure out how the fuck human society works. An easygoing weirdo with a robot buddy, but he's actually from a war-torn nightmare battlefield of a homeland, and he's living as an energy-based fake body while his real body exists in laser stasis, slowly dying. His combat abilities have the side effect of letting him function as an infallible walking lie detector.

Mamizou Futatsuiwa (Touhou Project) is a tanuki who was brought into Gensokyo to try and tilt the balance of power back in favor of the youkai. With the ability to change her shape at will, she often infiltrates the human village in disguise to be slightly ominous and very friendly to people at the same time. Has like five hidden agendas at any given moment. Low-key mob boss aesthetic.

Mimori Togo (Yuki Yuna is a Hero) is a magical girl tasked with protecting a god-tree from an endless procession of divine messengers of destruction. Can't walk, absurdly into Japanese history/weird patriotism, has a surreal sense of deadpan humor, sniper. Characterized by being really odd in slice of life scenarios, then crying and yelling about the apocalypse and being bad at friendship.

Orion Kislev (OC) is a college student who got trapped in an MMO. A shitposting minmaxer who obsessively tries to optimize the guild's performance and annoys his friends. Has healing magic and a lot of memes, operates on videogame logic. Never sleeps, decided at some point that honestly the game world rules, fuck reality and trying to get back home.

Yuka Ichijou/Reflector Shine (OC) is a magical girl who fights in a magical dreamscape where she manifests as her ideal self. The team healer and support caster, she does everything in her power to allow everyone to live happily as the people they want to be. A trans girl, she is still living as the tall, standoffish artist Ryouma Ichijou in the real world. Will probably die for you if you're chill about all the shit she's got going on.

Yuka & Kyouko

[ Wednesday afternoon. The school roof.

Technically, students aren't allowed to come up here, but Ryouma occasionally uses it as a small act of rebellion. After a long day, sometimes it's nice to just go somewhere where she won't have to deal with other people for a few minutes. Good scenery, a nice breeze, solitude. Also, there are some things that wouldn't be the easiest things to explain to other people, best done alone.

Ryouma watches the clip from end to end twice on her phone, trying to follow every movement as two people sweep across the dance floor. With a small nod, she stands up and closes her eyes, trying to capture the image in her mind, miming an imaginary dance partner. If he starts like this, then she starts with her arms like this, then steps like this...

It's a good thing she's alone up here, because she probably looks ridiculous. ]

[daydreamy]

[ Kyouko's original thought had been that she just wanted to get this notebook back to whoever dropped it. She knows notes are probably a thing you need if you bother to take them and after all the running around she's done trying to find the owner, she really wants to see if this Cool And Mysterious senpai of hers lives up to that name. There'd been so much ooh-ing and aah-ing while she'd asked around, at least two girls had offered to return the notebook instead but Kyouko had waved them off and said no, no, it was no bother.

Which is how she finds herself wandering up to the rooftop after school, notebook clutched carefully to her chest. She hasn't snooped exactly, just paged enough to find a name. And she really, really wants to get to know the person who'd filled their notebook with such cute drawings.

She's not really sure what she expects to find, when she comes to the top of the stairs and slowly pushes open the door. It's certainly not dancing, though. Kyouko's taken aback enough that she just stands there, her greeting stalled before she could give it and she just... watches. Stares, even. Kyouko, that's rude. ]

[ So then from there it's one, two, th--oh god.

Ryouma briefly freezes after locking eyes with Kyouko, then frantically and unsuccessfully tries to act casual. ]

I, I was just...

How long were you watching?

[daydreamy]

Oh, uh! Like, a minute or something? Sorry, did you not want-- I mean, I guess if you're up here with the door closed, duh, you want a little privacy! Did I totally throw you off? Man, I'm sorry!

[ it's kind of impressive how fast she can talk without the apparent need for a pause to take in a breath. ]

I just came up here 'cause -- [ and then she holds up the notebook ] -- I was looking for you! Assuming you're Ichijou-senpai, anyway, since that's who I was looking for.

Ah, my notebook!

[ That's enough of a direction shift to knock her out of her mortified panic. Ryouma was fully prepared to never get that back, and more than a little worried that someone else might find it and look at it.

...Wait. ]

Thanks. Uh... did you read any of it...?

[daydreamy]

Sorta? I was just flipping through some of the pages trying to find your name, but I didn't really see anything. Oh, apart from all your cute doodles, though! But that was it.

[ She holds it out for Ryouma to take, still all smiles. ]

[ Ah, shit. She takes the notebook, not making eye contact. ]

...Don't tell anyone about those, okay? It's just kind of a personal thing I do sometimes.

[daydreamy]

Oh no, no way!

[ She holds up both hands and flaps them as if to underline how thoroughly she means that 'no way' ]

I figure, it's not really anyone's business? What's in your notebook at all, I mean, not just the doodles. I was seriously worried I was gonna find something personal in there and I'd feel like the worst human being ever when I was just looking for your name!

But I didn't! So we're good.

[shineinside]

All right. Cool.

[ Ryouma leans against the wall, trying with mixed success to look like she isn't in a mild panic. ]

And... what I was doing when you walked in... would also be kind of hard to explain to my friends, so...

[daydreamy]

[ Aaah, 'cool' in the way you use it when things are definitely absolutely not cool. She gets it. ]

Ooohh yeah, no worries. Mouth, zipped.

[ She actually mimes zipping her mouth and tossing away the zipper but then she gives Ryouma a smile. ]

Is that why you were up here all by yourself, then? You think people are gonna get on your case for learning to dance?

I... I guess?

[ Most girls she talks to have either confessed, gotten intimidated, or wandered off by now. ]

It's more like... having a place that's just for me... or something.

[daydreamy]

'cause everyone I talked to can't get enough of you, right?

[ Coming from someone else that might have sounded biting and/or sarcastic but Kyouko somehow manages to make it come out with 100% sincerity. ]

Seriously, all your classmates were like "kyaaa, Ichijou-san!" when I asked about you and I bet that gets super tiring after a while.

I don't... It's not like I think badly of them, you know? It's not like I can control who someone is or isn't interested in...

[But yeah, it gets pretty tiring, she doesn't explicitly confirm. Especially when some of them she'd honestly totally be down to accept, but...]

But it's so much, right? I'd get super tired of that. No wonder you wanna come up here and get some time for yourself.

[ But then she shakes her head and mimes that lips zipped gesture from before again. ]

And it'll keep being yours! I mean it, I'm not gonna tell anyone. The last thing you need is a million people up here kyaa kyaa-ing over you every single second of the day.

Oh, I'm Kougami Kyouko! I guess I probably should've introduced myself a little sooner, yeah?

[ She's got a cheesy, self deprecating sort of grin. ]

You can call me Kougami or Kyouko, I don't mind!

I mean, you saw me ballroom dancing by myself on the roof and just went "oh, okay" about it, which isn't what I would expect from that situation.

Different strokes for different folks? [ kyouko, no ] And besides, everyone in my class is kinda...

[ She wrinkles up her nose. ]

Saionji-san's got that thing about bread and Aonuma-san says she has a condition where she'll break out in hives if the boys come near her. Ballroom dancing is pretty tame.

Wait, hives, really? She's not just shy?

That's what she says, anyway. I've never actually seen it happens but Kasumi-chan swears down she did in middle school. She had to go to the hospital and everything, apparently.

I didn't know that was a real thing. I wonder how her skin can tell whether someone's a boy or a girl...

Maybe it's like a chemical reaction or something... like how some people start swelling when they get insect bites and stuff. You'd think the doctors would wanna investigate that!
